2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had 30,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 7 Film Festivals

FF2613 – Research Project Presentations

Dear All,
Just to remind everyone that the presentation of the students’ research projects are on these dates at DK1;

29/11/2012 (Thursday) from 10am till 12 noon
3/12/2012 (Monday) from 2pm to 4.20 pm.

I would like to invite interested JKM lecturers to attend these presentations. No meals will be provided to avoid wastage but I’ll treat any lecturers that turn up for tea/lunch at the cafetaria.

UKM Class leader – please request a second microphone to be installed from Unit Sumber Media, Jabatan Pendidikan Perubatan, so that the lecturers can give their comments after every presentations. All powerpoints from all presenting labs must be placed into a folder on the DK1 desktop PC before the session starts so that we can save time. Those using other method of presentation beside Powerpoints such as Flash, Shockwave or any other forms of animation, please make sure that it will work on the DK1 PC within the given time, otherwise you and your lab will lose that 10% of the final marks. You have been warned.

For the first day, the presentation will be from the even labs (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 ,12).
For the second day, the presentation will be from the odd labs (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13).
(changes based on request from students)

Time given for presentations is only 15 minutes, plus 5 minutes for Q&A sessions. So each labs, please make sure that your slides do not exceed 25. Keep the introduction and literature review slides to around 5 or less. For the results, if you have many interesting findings, just focus on the very important ones, keep the rest for your written final report. I will stop your presentation at exactly 15 minutes, so you will lose a lot of marks if you haven’t covered everything. Rushing through the slides will not benefit anybody if the judge(s) cannot understand your presentation.

Attached is the marking scheme so that you guys can maximise your presentation marks.

Explaination of the marking scheme;
Title – Whether it is of current interest or relevant. Clearly state the “what, who, how and when”.
Introduction – Conceptual framework of the research question. All important variables of interest should be covered in the literature review.
Methodology – Main & specific objective/hypothesis, design, sampling (population, frame, method), data collection.
Results – Descriptives; mean, sd, % of main variables of interest. i.e. if study is on stress, then the prevalence of stress overall.
Results – Analytical; testing of hypothesis using the appropriate statistical tests.
Discussion – discussion of the results. Compare against results from other studies in literature review.
Conclusion – conclusion of your study and recommendations (if any)
APD – layout, design, wording size, good contrast between text and background, rule of 7 recommended.
Q&A – the answers from the lab members should indicate good understanding of research and statistical tests.
